2009 Governing Council News

5/3/2009

Hi Club Members,

I have just returned from the 2009 Governing Council in Buffalo,NY. This is the yearly board meeting for US Figure Skating. Each club hold a certain number of votes based on the number of members in their club. Each club also sends representatives to vote on the issues that are slated for approval. The meetings included: sectional meetings, workshops for club members, presentation of new Moves In the Field and the 2 day Governing Council, one really big, long meeting :) This year myself, Brenda McConnell and Denise Williamson were our representatives. Please ask us about this or go on line to view the results of this meeting.

It is worthwhile to take a look on the U.S. Figure Skating website to review the details of this meeting. Several changes of interest are changes in the Moves In The Field as well as adding vocal music for intermediate level and below. When you log on to the website, www.usfsa.org, scroll to the bottom right corner where you'll see a light blue box with Member Services listed. Click on 2009 Governing Council for details.

Best regards,
Kelly Ciaramella

Look at those skaters GROW!!!

1/14/2009

Are your closets overrun with dresses your skater has outgrown? Well, drop them at the rink for Cindy Dickey to place in our consignment closet :)

Our consignment closet has been quite successful these past two months, the racks are a bit bare now and we could sure use some "new" items. Competition season is coming up and it's a great time to put items in.

Just place items in a bag labeled 'CONSIGNMENT', your name and number, and the asking price for each item and leave for Cindy at the front desk.

Hi Club members,

I JUST received another updated schedule from Sports & Properties, Inc. regarding the site visit from USFS Selections committee....

The visit to the Greensboro Coliseum has been moved to MONDAY, January 5th at 1:30pm. I know this will limit many of you with work and school committments but if you can make the trip, please come :) It would probably be best to arrive by 1:00pm so you can be in place to greet the committee as they arrive at 1:30pm.

Please pass this along.

2011 US Figure Skating Nationals Bid

12/30/2008

Hi Club Members,

As many of you may be aware, the City of Greensboro, NC has placed a bid and been chosen as a finalist to be the host city for the 2011 USFS National Championships. This is exciting news for our NC figure skating community!

Sports & Properties, Inc., a Cary, NC based sports and entertainment consulting practice is leading this effort. Part of the process of submitting the bid to host Nationals involves a visit from the USFS Site Selection Committee to meet with local officials and organizers as well as tour the Greensboro Coliseum, surrounding hotels and the town itself. This is where our participation comes in...

We have been asked to help give the USFS Site Selection Committee a spectacular greeting when they arrive at the Coliseum. Sports & Properties would like for us to help them have as many skaters and supporters as possible to line the walkway, dressed in their skating club warm-ups or jackets, and cheering loudly as the committee arrives at the Greensboro Coliseum. You can get creative and make signs to let them know how much we want to host this event! 'Welcome, USFS! Greensboro is THE place to be for Nationals!' "Ur Selection For Skating event hosting excellence! GREENSBORO!" (think NFL game signs :) Be creative! We need your presence to show our support for hosting this event in our state!

The date for this would be Sunday, January 4th at approximately 1:00pm at the Greensboro Coliseum.

We would like to have a nice showing from Carolinas FSC so if you are interested in going, please respond to this email or to me at knitteriam@carolinas.rr.com. It's a very short drive to Greensboro and folks can carpool to make it more fun for the kids and parents :) We would greatly appreciate your support in this effort to bring high level competition to the NC area! I can also send directions to you via email :)

Thank you for your continued support of figure skating and our club!

Best regards,
Kelly Ciaramella

2008 Skate A Gift Holiday Show

12/5/2008

Jenny has posted the running order for the 2008 Skate A Gift Holiday Show on the club bulletin board in the Training Rink. She is in need of volunteers to work a shift or two. Please consider working during the time your child is NOT skating or even when they are if you like the back stage action! It is a fun time for our skaters but they will need help and supervision for this event. It is a quick and easy time to volunteer and see some really great skating as there are all levels skating during each hour of the show. We really need your help to make it a success, so take a look at the attached time slots available and see if you can give a bit of time. Thank you for your continued support of the figure skaters, the XIC figure skating program and Carolinas FSC!!!

Congratulations Caitlin Henricks!

CFSC would like to congratulate Caitlin Henricks on her upcoming trip to the 2009 Junior National Championships in Lake Placid, NY. Denise has been a coach at XIC for the past two years. Prior to being at XIC, she spent 3 years coaching at the Pineville Ice House, 17 years coaching at Eastland Mall and 8 years coaching in Illinois, while earning a degree in Chemistry from Univ. of Illinois.

Denise has been a member of U.S. Figure Skating for the past 35 years, where she has served on the USFS Singles Committee for the past three years as well as the USFS Technical Panel Committee and the USFS Technical Panel Peer Committee. Also, she is a member of the Professional Skaters Association where she holds a Level IV rating. Through PSA, she is Master rated in both Free Skating & Moves In the Field, Senior rated in Figures and has served as a guest speaker at both National and State level workshops.
